Born Pretty Store Review I Featuring Colour Changing Nail Gel* & Shell Studs*

The lovely people down at the Born Pretty Store contacted me asking if I would review a selection of their nail products. I had honestly never heard of their company before but from viewing their website I quickly realised that they were one of those hidden internet gems, with their site selling every nail art brush, pen, polish, gel, gem and decal (the list could go on) under the sun. Not to mention a selection of other products.

I decided that I've always wanted to trial a colour changing nail gel so I received the light effected colour changing gel builder plus a little brush. I also decided to trial some metal stud decoration, and obviously I had to choose these cute mini shells!

The colour changing builder indicated that in bright light the shade of pink I had chosen was brighter and in darker light it was darker, so to go with this I decided to use a base of Model's Own scented Blueberry light blue almost white shade called 'Blueberry Muffin' which was set between 2 layers of clear gel.

Once my base was done, for my first time using gel builder I decided to create a polka dot pattern over the top of my blue base. The gel is quite thick and translucent so I had to build up smaller layers in between flash dries of 2 minutes. It was quite a long process but the gel was strong and very durable. Once the design was set I then waited to test it's effects before then adding the shells for an extra twee finish.

Unfortunately with this product I wasn't actually able to get a result. I tried putting my nails under a variety of different lights only to get no result. This is a shame as I think Born Pretty's other products in the colour changing range were so successful (especially the temperature changing version demonstrated brilliantly by Rawr shop). Changing tact, I decided to test out my second item of the mini metal shell studs with a different NYE inspired manicure!

Here I opted for my go-to light pink Sensationail gel called 'Rose Chiffon' set between a top and base coat, with an overcoat of the Essie Polish 'A Cut Above' from the latest 'Luxe Effects' collection, with my mini metal shells added to my ring fingers with some nail glue.

I can easily say I am absolutely in love with these shells! They're really well produced and last a long time, plus have got me a fair few compliments. The only thing to remember when buying this type of product is that due to them not being completely flat, like other stick on nail studs and nail canes, you have little choice on where to put your design if you have quite curved nails like I do, so setting them in gel/clear polish is needed to prevent accidental design disasters. But other than this minor issue I would definitely recommend these for your nail art collection.
